The History of the Monopoly Slots

The Monopoly slots are without question one of the most popular ranges of games that you can find at any online casino.

They have a long history, starting off in the land based casinos and clubs, where this board game based theme has inspired a whole host of titles, including the famous JPM Monopoly quiz machines, the numerous Barcrest fruit machines, and the incredibly well loved Vegas slot, Monopoly Megabucks.

One of the reasons why the game of Monopoly has been such a successful and enduring theme with casino audiences all around the world is that everyone associates this game with making a fortune through luck. Monopoly in itself is one of those games that really requires very little skill or judgement, and is completely down to the luck of the dice rolls. All you have to do is wait for lady luck to smile her sweet smile of fortune down upon you, and you could end up winning a huge sum of money. This has a lot of similarities with slot machines, but of course in the casino you can win real cash, as opposed to the toy stuff you’ll get in the board game.

Monopoly Pass Go was the first Monopoly slot to feature on the web. Although this game has been superseded by a whole bunch of bigger and perhaps better games, this still seems to be a real favourite with the online gaming public, racking up thousands of plays every day. This machine also forms the basis for the brilliant Monopoly Megajackpots, which offers players a chance to get their hands on a life changing sum of money for lining up five of the special Megajackpots symbols across the game’s middle reels.

The next slot to arrive on the scene was our personal favourite – Monopoly Here & Now. We’ve always felt that this is the best of all the Monopoly slots, mirroring the board game as you collect properties on the reels to boost your winnings in the base game. This was shortly followed by Monopoly Multiplier, a cut down three reel old school slot that offers players a chance to win in a rush from it’s fast paced base-game.

In 2011, a new Monopoly slot joined the party. This was Monopoly – You’re In The Money. This game bought a new level of bonus game action and big reel wins to online casino audiences. However, for some reason this machine wasn’t an overnight hit like Monopoly Here & Now and Pass Go, so the creative geniuses at IGT decided to take it offline for a bit of remodelling. This title was reborn as Monopoly Plus, the first slot to feature IGT’s new Level Up Plus technology, allowing players to get their hands on special unlockable content to boost their wins in the board game based bonus round.

Monopoly – The Dream Life is the most recent title to join the online Monopoly slots family, bringing the Tumbling Reels mechanism that first featured on Da Vinci Diamonds to the series. This is the first Monopoly slot, with the exception of the fast play Monopoly Multiplier, to not feature a board game based bonus. However, there are loads of references to the famous board game in the feature round, where you have to select property cards from a table to get yourself a bunch of free spins.

Even though there are other incredibly successful slot machines available from today’s online casinos, such as Rainbow Riches – Pots of Gold and Wolf Run, we can’t really see any of them taking away the complete dominance of the superb Monopoly slots. We’re sure that IGT are only going to expand this range as online gambling grows in the US, bringing new and innovative titles to delight and excite the already huge Monopoly slot fan base.
